Recover previous versions

checkout (alias restore) lists a page’s versions or restores one of them. For a space path, it uses the space homepage (the same PATH rules as cat).

$ checkout ./page
$ checkout ./page | head 5

Listing is read-only and does not need -y. Versions appear newest first (about 50 at most). Each line is the version number, when it was created, and who created it when that data is available.

checkout does not read piped stdin. You can pipe its listing into grep or head.

$ checkout -y ./page 12
$ restore --yes ./page 12

Restoring requires -y / --yes. Without the flag, Shell prints an error and does not write.

Confluence Cloud creates a new current version whose content and title match the old one. VERSION must be a positive integer. Restoring the current version is an error.

  • Restoring does not delete later versions from Confluence history; it adds a new current version.
  • Confirm the version number from the listing before you pass -y.
